Fees and Payments
Do you have to pay fees?
Many students do not pay tuition fees because they are either:
- Under 19 years and a British or an EU National, a refugee, an asylum seeker in receipt of Asylum Seeker's Support or in the care of Social Services, or you are a Child of a Diplomat then you won't have to pay any fees. You will need to provide evidence to support your status.
- Studying on a FREE course
- Eligible for concessionary fees
Read below for more information about your options:
Students Aged 16-18
If you’re aged 16-18 on 31st August in the year when you start your full-time course, then there are normally NO course tuition fees payable, although you may be required to pay for materials.
You will be required to pay certification fees for an exam re-sit. You may also be required to pay certification fees if you withdraw from your course or fail to attend your exam without good reason.
Some courses offered by the College are not subsidised which means you will have to pay all fees in full.
Exemption fees may not apply if you are still in full- time education at another college/ school or if you have been living outside of the UK within the last three years.
GCSE Maths and English
If you are aged 19+ and need a GCSE Maths or English qualification for your career route and have not already achieved a C or above, then there would be no tuition or exam fees.
A large number of employers and training providers are insisting on GCSEs.
NB. Eligibility criteria may be subject to change based on Government changes
Students aged 19 and over at the course start date - studying at Level 1, 2 or first Level 3
You must meet the criteria from one of the categories below:
- Aged 19+ unemployed and in receipt of JSA (Jobseekers Allowance) or Work Related ESA (Employment Support Allowance) - FREE up to and including first Level 3 courses for students aged 19-23.
- Aged 19+ unemployed and in receipt of a means-tested state benefit looking to enter employment - FREE up to and including first Level 3 courses for students aged 19-23. Benefits include Council Tax Benefit, Housing Benefit, Income Support/ Universal Credit, Contribution based Employment Support Allowance (unless in work related activity group).
- Students aged 19-23 who enrol on their first full Level 2 course – FREE*
- Students aged 19-23 who enrol on their first full Level 3 course – FREE*
Most courses are on the list, however, please contact the College if you are concerned about being affected by this.
If you are using benefits for a fee remission you must provide evidence of this at the time of enrolment.
This must be an official awards letter or notice of benefit.
The evidence must be dated within six months of the first day of the course you are enrolling on.
If it is not available at enrolment you will be required to pay the full fee.

Students aged 19 or over (at the course start date) studying a second Level 3 OR students aged 24 or over at the course start date - studying their first Level 3
May apply for a loan through the Advanced Learner Loan scheme, to pay for the course fee. The Government has introduced the Advanced Learner Loan which provides a means for anybody aged 19 and over to improve their qualifications through access to further education.
If you are aged 19 and above, studying Level 3 to 6 qualifications including A Levels, Access to Higher Education diplomas and certificates, you can apply for the loan to help pay fees.
You can apply for a loan even if your course has already started, though you must apply before it finishes.
Receiving the loan doesn’t depend on household income or credit history and repayments do not start until after you finish your course.
The balance of the loan outstanding could be written off if the learner continues to Higher Education having taken an Access course.

If you have applied for the Advanced Learner Loan you will need to bring your confirmation letter to enrolment.
If you have not applied for your loan or have not had your confirmation you will be required to pay a £100 deposit to complete your enrolment.
This will be refunded when you have proof of your loan.
If you have lived outside the UK or you are an International student, your fee will vary from those listed with the courses.

Employer or Sponsorship
Payment Plans (Non-Higher Education)
For course fees below £400, a deposit of £100 is required at enrolment followed by three equal instalments during the course.
For course fees above £400, a deposit of 25% is required at enrolment followed by three equal instalments during the course.
The instalment payments can be taken either on a debit/ credit card (must still be in date by the third instalment), or alternatively you may pay by Direct Debit.
If you would like to pay by instalments, you will need to complete the fee payment form during enrolment.
Forms are available from Student Services.
Where the College cancel a course prior to its start date or alter the location or time, such that a student cannot attend, a full refund will be made.
If a student needs to cancel their course and does so in writing to Student Services 14 working days before the course start date, we will make a full refund minus an Administration charge as detailed in the Tuition Fee Policy.
If an individual or employer cancels less than 14 working days before the start of the course then the College operates a ‘no refund policy’.
