What entry requirements do I need?

You will need a minimum of: 4 GCSEs grade A*- D (grade 3 - 9) including English and maths; or successful completion of Level 1 Vehicle Maintenance.

What will I learn?

This one-year course will give you all the skills and knowledge to enable you to work in the vehicle accident repair sector.

During the course you will learn all the essential skills you need to be able perform cosmetic and bodywork repair and replacement on light vehicles. You will be able to use the latest industry standard equipment and learn in our dedicated garages and workshops at our Automotive Training Centre to perform a number of tasks including panel replacement, interior and exterior trim replacement and electrical component replacement. You will also improve your English, maths, IT and employability skills, all of which are essential for starting your career in the automotive industry.

You will study topics including:

  • Light vehicle steering and suspension
  • Light vehicle braking
  • Electrical systems diagnostics
  • Electrical component replacement
  • Vehicle panel replacement
  • Interior and exterior trim replacement
  • Engineering skills
  • Employment skills
  • Maths & English
  • Health and safety

By the end of the course you will have learnt the skills needed to be a trainee in the vehicle repair industry. You will also have gained credits towards an MET apprenticeship.

You will be assessed through observation of workshop activity, exams, and portfolio evidence.

What could I progress on to?

Once you have completed the course you can progress onto an aAprenticeship or a full-time Level 3 course in Vehicle Maintenance.

There are a number of career opportunities available for you after gaining the skills you need to work as a trainee in the vehicle repair industry.

here will be an additional cost of approximately £100 to purchase safety boots and black work trousers, and to cover the cost of a course trip.
