What will I learn?

This 2 year Edexcel BTEC Higher National Certificate in Engineering has been developed with career progression and professional body recognition in mind.

You will be given an overview of mechanical and manufacturing engineering as well as Electrical & Electronic Engineering so you can get a feel for the dynamic of the industry. You will also be prepared for progression onto the HND course, here at Sussex Coast College Hastings.

You will develop your skills and personal qualities, helping to identify essential attributes for a successful performance in working life. This will help you make an immediate impact and contribution to employers once you are fully qualified.

During the course you will study a range of modules including:

  • Analytical methods for engineers
  • Engineering science
  • Engineering design
  • Business management techniques
  • Materials
  • Mechanical principles
  • Advanced CAD techniques
  • Project design, implementation and evaluation

What could I progress on to?

This course is set up perfectly for progression onto the HND where you will be able to expand your knowledge and prepare yourself for employment or a full degree top up.

Students go on to work with local businesses such as Qinetiqs, where graduates secure technician, supervisor and management roles. Past students have worked with companies such as EDF, Aero Vintage, Photek, Deutsch(TE), Secol Engineering, VG Scienta, Stevens Rowsell, British Gypsum and Interface Engineering.

Entry Level

These courses are for students who want to start progressing up the qualifications levels or have no previous qualifications.

Vocational Level 1

You must have a mixture of grades E to G at GCSE to study at this level.

Vocational Level 2

You must have two grade D's and two grade E's at GCSE or a relevant level 1 qualification to study at this level.

Vocational Level 3

These courses are equivalent to A levels, you must have at least four GCSE's at grade C or above or a relevant level 2 qualification.

A Levels

A levels are level 3 courses, you must have or expect 5 A-C grades at GCSE level including Maths and English.
Foundation Degree and Degree Our university courses typically require a relevant level 3 qualification or 120 UCAS points.
