What entry requirements do I need?
You will need a minimum of: 5 GCSEs grade A*- C (grade 4 - 9) including English and maths.
What will I learn?
During this one-year course you will develop more advanced theoretical knowledge of engineering. Theory lessons will develop your understanding of CAD, and introduce you to fluid mechanics, and electronic devices. In our dedicated workshop you will learn more advanced techniques in how to use machinery, tools and materials. You will work with a range of materials to produce products, parts and components using lathes and milling machines. You will be able to use you purpose built welding bays and learn about the different types of welding. You will also have the opportunity to learn in the industry by taking advantage of our great relationship with local and national engineering companies to undertake work expereince placements.

- Engineering materials
- Engineering maths and science
- Electronic devices and circuits
- Engineering design
- Computer-aided design (CAD)
- Fluid Mechanics
- Engineering machining and welding
- Engineering workshop skills
This course will give you a broad understanding about the industry's many fields. You will learn technical skills in the our fully-equipped machine shop and welding bays, while gaining a thorough understanding of the theoretical side of engineering in the classroom.
Your assessment will consist of 100% coursework based assignments.
What could I progress on to?
On completion of this course you can progress onto an Apprenticeship, HNC/HND Engineering courses here at Sussex Coast College or go onto to further study at university.
If you wish to start your career you could gain employement in a wide range of opportunities including becoming an Environmental engineer, a Vehicle designer, a Civil engineer, an Aeronautical engineer, a Mechanical engineer, a Marine engineering or a Nuclear engineering.
There will be a cost of approximately £100 to cover the cost of tools, materials, and books. You will also need to provide your own safety boots and overalls.
