What entry requirements do I need?

You will need a minimum of: Prior qualification in Level 2 Health & Social Care at grade Merit.

What will I learn?

This qualification is intended for those who want to start a career in adult care. All the content of the qualification is mandatory and relates directly to the skills, knowledge and behaviours expected by employers in the adult care sector. The areas learners will cover include:

• principles and practices of working in adult care settings • communicating and handling information • contributing to health, safety and safeguarding • developing professional practice skills for work in adult care settings.

Learners will also cover broader skills in literacy and numeracy, which will help them to progress.Learners will develop other transferable technical and practical skills in providing compassionate care and support, working and communicating with users of services, their families, caregivers,advocates and colleagues.

The content of this qualification has been developed in collaboration with employers and representatives from relevant professional bodies and further education providers. The content has been aligned to the Apprenticeship Standard for Adult Care Worker.

There are 4 modules, all of which have to be completed- Principles and Practices of Working in Adult Care Settings; Communicate and Handle Information in Adult Care Settings; Contribute to Health, Safety and Safeguarding in Adult Care Settings; Develop Professional Practice Skills forWork in Adult Care Settings.

In this qualification, there is one external assessment, which takes the form of an onscreen test that includes a variety of onscreen question types and allows learners to apply their knowledge to several work-related contexts. Units 2, 3 and 4 are assessed through internal assessment. There is one internal unit that provides the main synoptic assessment for this qualification.This synoptic assessment is designed to take place during the work placement and draws on the learning throughout. Learners must complete the Placement Experience Assessment Workbook which will serve as a record of work placement attendance and completion, and a portfolio of assessment evidence.

What could I progress on to?

Achieving this qualification will give learners an advantage when applying for a job in adult care.The types of jobs they will be ready for are:

• adult care worker • personal assistant.

Learners will be able to complete the CareCertificate with their employer and prepare to progress to a Level 3 Apprenticeship programme inadult care.

Successful completion of this qualification will help to support progression into and within a number of job roles within the health and social care sector

There will be a charge for a DBS ( formally CRB Criminal Records Bureau) check.

In order to meet the requirements of the qualification, learners must undertake supervised adult care work placement of a minimum of 200 hours in one adult care setting.

Sometimes it can be difficult to decide the right level at which to study. The guide below will help you work which level is best for you.

Entry Level

These courses are for students who want to start progressing up the qualifications levels or have no previous qualifications.

Vocational Level 1

You must have a mixture of grades E to G at GCSE to study at this level.

Vocational Level 2

You must have two grade D's and two grade E's at GCSE or a relevant level 1 qualification to study at this level.

Vocational Level 3

These courses are equivalent to A levels, you must have at least four GCSE's at grade C or above or a relevant level 2 qualification.

A Levels

A levels are level 3 courses, you must have or expect 5 A-C grades at GCSE level including Maths and English.
Foundation Degree and Degree Our university courses typically require a relevant level 3 qualification or 120 UCAS points.
