AS/A Level Philosophy

What will I learn?

During this two-year course you will discuss and explore the deeper question of human existence, while learning a range of academic skills, perfect for further study at university.

Over the two years you will discuss human existence, gain a sound understanding of how we perceive the reality around us, while beginning to questions the way we behave as individuals. You will discuss the role that religion plays in our society, and focus on the philosophy of ethics paying particular attention to philosophers such as Kant, Mill and Bentham. Towards the end of the course you will start to focus on deconstructing logic and knowledge.

You will develop your knowledge in:

  • How we perceive the world around us
  • Religion and the role that it plays in our society
  • Critical perspectives of assumptions in society
  • Enlightenment thinking and braking down the barriers of medieval society

Philosophy is a highly sought after qualification by elite Higher Education institutions, and is one of the most challenging A-Levels that you can study.

Your assessments will be entirely through exams

What could I progress on to?

Once you have completed this course you progress onto degrees in a number of areas at Russell Group universities.

Given the highly analytical nature of Philosophy there will also be a number of career opportunities available to you including roles in Education as an academic or as a lecturer at A-Level, you could go into Journalism, Politics or work in the financial market.

There may be some additional costs during the course for trips and visits to further your learning.
