My name is Richard Cobbold.
I am in charge of quality control of accredited part-time courses (such as the NCFEs); verifying assessment decisions and liaising with external assessors. I am a professional Illustrator. I have been teaching at Sussex Coast College Hastings for 8 years, delivering media, illustration, advertising and design to a wide range of age groups and levels of ability, from First Diploma (Level 2) to Foundation Degree (level 4).
My hobbies are: drawing, drawing, and more drawing.
I would say to anyone wanting to take a part-time course at the college: don’t doubt your capabilities until you have had a really good try. Potential takes time and opportunity to un-tap. My advice to anybody who has toyed with the idea of studying art, but has doubted their ability to do well in the subject, is to come and try a part-time course. It’s a small commitment of time and money and you’ll be surprised at just how much you can learn and how quickly you can discover your potential.
My proudest moment is meeting ex-students that I had taught on the First Diploma Media programme, that have now, five years down the line, graduated with their BA Hons Degrees. Having been there with them when they took their first steps on their career paths, it gives me great satisfaction to know that they have realised their potential and have developed so much.
