My name is Iris Williams.
I started working for Sussex Coast College Hastings in October 2010 and am really enjoying teaching and working here, I’m hoping to complete my A1 whilst I am here and grow as a teacher.
I’m originally from Iceland and have been living in England since 1998. I come from a big hairdressing family and seem to have been born into the industry. I have been hairdressing for the past twelve years and have worked in various salons in Bexhill and Eastbourne. I completed my hairdressing NVQ2 at Hastings College in 2000 and my NVQ3 in 2010, with a few qualifications in-between.
My main hobby is belly-dancing, which I have been doing for the last 6 years. I practice once a week and am in a performing troupe called Zaphira. I enjoy the dancing, all the lovely costumes and performing on stage.
I would say to anyone wanting to take up a part-time course at the college: work hard and never give up on your dreams. Life is what you make it.
My proudest moments would be when I had my first daughter... then again when I had my second daughter. Seeing your child for the first time is the best feeling ever and made me very proud.
